Within this framework of the EU4Climate project, a series of virtual workshops were held on “Sectoral adaptation to climate change in Ukraine”. The overarching objective of the workshops was to support policymakers and technical officials in addressing the adverse impacts of climate change through the medium and long-term National Adaptation Plan (NAP) and the Sector Adaptation Plans.
EU4Climate project runs to support the development of methodologies for sectoral climate vulnerability assessment processing systems that are absolutely needed to be able to assess the impact of climate change and to develop models for Ukraine to see how climate is going to affect the country in the future.
These workshops aimed to strengthen technical capacities and efforts towards formulating integrated and evidence-based sector adaptation plans. The workshops also aimed to facilitate regional knowledge exchange, provide guidance, highlight emerging best practices and case studies, and present existing tools that policymakers and technical government officials can use. The experience of sharing and discussing the formulation of sector adaptation plans was featured.
The introduction series of 7 virtual workshops started 8th till the 23rd of February. Over 20 international speakers from the UNECE, UNICEF, UN WASH, European Environmental Agency, European Commission, Eurocontrol, and other high- level professional organizations and more than 230 unique participants from the EU Delegation to Ukraine, Ministries, academia, civil society organizations, businesses as well as experts from technical assistance projects in the field of climate action and environmental policy participated.
As a result, the key challenges for the Ukrainian adaptation initiatives to climate change have been identified and discussed. The recommendations elaborated to facilitate regional knowledge exchange, provide guidance, highlight emerging best practices and case studies, and present existing tools that policymakers and technical government officials can use.
