Young Innovators Design Nature-Based Solutions for Tashir

Creativity, innovation, and environmental sustainability came together at the National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia (NUACA), where students developed forward-looking concepts to help transform the bridge and riverbanks of Tashir through Nature-based Solutions (NbS).

Through EU4ClimateResilience, the Energy Saving Foundation partnered with NUACA to involve the next generation of architects, urban planners, and engineers in designing climate-resilient public spaces as part of the "Climate Bridge" demonstration project in Tashir.

The initiative began with a comprehensive learning programme that introduced students and university lecturers to the principles and practical application of Nature-based Solutions in urban environments. Participants then took part in a three-day field visit to Tashir, where they explored the project area, assessed local challenges, and gained first-hand insight into the opportunities for restoring the bridge and adjacent riverbanks using sustainable, nature-based approaches.

Building on this experience, students received additional training in concept development, project design, and presentation skills before putting their knowledge into practice during the Hackathon, held at NUACA on 28 April 2026.

Working in multidisciplinary teams, four groups presented innovative concepts for revitalizing the Tashir bridge and surrounding riverbanks. Their proposals combined environmental restoration with improved public spaces, demonstrating how Nature-based Solutions can enhance climate resilience while creating greener, more attractive, and more liveable urban environments. The most promising ideas will serve as valuable inputs for the future implementation of the Climate Bridge demonstration project in Tashir.

The students' work reached an even wider audience when the teams showcased their concepts during the Europe Day celebrations in Yerevan on 10 May 2026, giving visitors the opportunity to learn how young professionals are contributing to climate resilience and sustainable urban development in Armenia.

By connecting academic knowledge with real-world challenges, EU4ClimateResilience is helping to equip future professionals with practical skills while encouraging innovative solutions that support climate adaptation and improve the quality of life in local communities.
