COP17 Media School Officially Launches Training Sessions
The Ministry of Environment, the United Nations Office in Armenia, and the Decarbonization and Climate Resilience in the Eastern Partnership Countries (EU4ClimateResilience) project, funded by the European Union and the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection of the Federal Republic of Germany (BMUV), have launched a three-month professional training programme for Armenian journalists and editors dedicated to the coverage of the COP17 conference.
The inaugural session took place on 17 April at the State Museum of Nature of the Ministry of Environment and focused on the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the significance of the Conferences of the Parties (COP). The keynote speaker was Voskehat Grigoryan, Head of the Protected Areas and Biodiversity Policy Department of the Ministry of Environment and National Focal Point for the Convention.
The programme aims to strengthen the capacity of Armenian media professionals ahead of COP17 by providing expert-led training on biodiversity conservation, climate agendas, the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, and COP17 preparations, including delegation protocols and summit operations.
During the session, participants explored the objectives of the Convention on Biological Diversity and discussed the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, including its "30x30" target to protect at least 30 percent of the Earth's land and oceans by 2030. The session concluded with an active discussion and Q&A, reflecting the strong engagement of participating journalists.
