Armenia Launches Greenhouse Gas Emissions Registry to Strengthen Climate Action
On 14 May 2026, Armenia's Ministry of Environment launched a new Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Registry, marking an important step towards strengthening the country's climate transparency framework and supporting the implementation of its national climate commitments.
The new registry will improve the tracking, reporting and management of greenhouse gas emissions, providing a more robust foundation for evidence-based climate policymaking. By strengthening its Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV) system, Armenia is enhancing its capacity to monitor progress towards its climate targets under the Paris Agreement.
Following the launch, representatives of the Ministry of Environment, the NDC Partnership, UNDP, GIZ and other development partners gathered for a roundtable discussion to identify priority support needs and improve coordination for the implementation of Armenia's updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0). The meeting highlighted the importance of joint efforts in advancing the country's climate agenda and ensuring effective delivery of climate commitments.
Within the framework of the EU4ClimateResilience, the new MRV platform will serve as a key tool for strengthening climate governance and enabling evidence-based decision-making. The platform will support Armenia in monitoring greenhouse gas emissions and tracking progress towards its target of reducing emissions by 44% by 2035.
By strengthening its climate transparency systems and reinforcing cooperation with international partners, Armenia continues to build the institutional foundations needed to accelerate decarbonisation and enhance climate resilience.
